從阿德萊德到墨爾本之三走大洋路

↑阿德萊德動物園 動物園裡還有一片專門給小朋友開闢的兒童動物園, 在那裡可以和小動物們親密接觸.

住在Glenelg,但是這麼多天連沙灘都沒有踩一踩. 起了一個大早, 說什麼也不能帶著這個遺憾離開Adelaide.

旅程還需繼續, 向 大洋路 進發!

今天的行程如下: Adelaide => Naracoorte => Mount Gambier => Portland 從Adelaide到Naracoorte真是枯燥,一路無話. 中間停了幾次車,加油上廁所. 之前兩次到達Mount Gambier已經黃昏, 總認為進入了South Austrlia的地界, Adelaide就應該不遠了. 實際上從Mount Gambier到Adelaide還要500多公里. 這真叫上路漫漫歸心似箭阿.

這次由於方向相反, 外加白天,又沒有什麼回家的感覺,反正是出來閑逛,所以感覺好多了. 正好也看清楚了一路的景色, 離Naracoorte不遠,路邊出現了大片大片的葡萄林和酒莊. 喜歡葡萄酒的同學們可以下去看看.

Naracoorte 是世界級的化石岩洞遺產, 至於它為什麼那麼重要,下麵有介紹:

Naracoorte Caves National Park is South Australia's only World Heritage site. The site was officially recognised in 1994 because of the importance of the fossils in the caves, preserving the bones of megafauna that became extinct roughly 60,000 years ago. There are 21 known fossil deposits in the park.

The caves have acted as pitfall traps, collecting animals for at least 500,000 years, preserving the most complete fossil record we have for this period of time. The fossil record covers several ice ages and the arrival of humans in the area.

The caves contain clues to help interpret the geological and evolutionary history of Australia.

The bones of Megafauna species such as Thylacoleo carnifex Marsupial Lion, Thylacine, Zygomaturus and sthenurine kangaroos have been found in the fossil deposits.

Palaeontologists have excavated and dated many of the fossils in Naracoorte Caves and have reconstructed the skeletons of a number of the megafauna that inhabited the area so many years ago.

因為這裡是計劃之外,我們當時只去了Alexandra Cave, 地貌最漂亮的一個. 但是Victoria Fossil Cave 裡面有完整的動物化石. 現在想想有點虧, 下次再來這裡又不知道猴年馬月了.

Alexandra Cave ( http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/naracoorte/discover/under-the-ground/alexandra-cave ) 只是地貌比較多變,但是這些東西國內或者其他地區已經看過很多. 裡面只有幾塊化石塊,看不到完整的骨架.

從每年的十二月到三月間，湖水會呈現生氣勃勃的鈷藍色；到了四月之後，則漸漸轉回冷調的鐵灰色，直到下一個十二月。造成這個現象的原因至今仍然未有定論，較被採信說法是：夏季時攝氏 20 度的表層水溫使得碳酸鈣從水中分離出來，形成極小的碳酸鈣微晶；陽光經過散射後，便形成了湛藍水色。到了冬季，湖水被充分的混和；最近的研究顯示，在這個階段中湖水內丹寧酸與碳酸鈣微粒的混和結果，就是陰郁水色的成因。此外，太陽光的入射角度也會影響水色的表現。而湖水中浮游生物的季節性活動可能也在水色變化上起著推波助瀾的作用

果然名不虛傳, 湖水確實散髮出奇異的藍色 ↑藍湖 ↑藍湖 藍湖旁邊的一個小湖 ↑藍湖 Mount Gamiber另一處景點就是 Umpherston Sinkhole ， 我叫它大坑裡的花園。
